Every web designer at the beginning of his career, makes a lot of mistakes. And luckily, these mistakes are common among them. So if you are a web designer, here are the top five mistakes any designer make at the beginning of his career:
Understanding the brief:
Any designer can make a common mistake, and waste a lot of time on procrastinating, or working up design ideas that may not be what the client wants and needs.
That is why you need to read the brief carefully from the start, make notes and contact the client, in order to ensure that you understand what they need.
While downloading fonts, be careful of the potential pitfalls in terms of legalities and usage rights. If you want your work to be professional, try to stretch your budget using font foundries. Be aware of your typography choices, as they are very important.
Using too many fonts in one piece:
In order to have a professional, clear and formatted design, do not use too many different fonts within a piece. Take it as a general rule, try to use two different fonts only and use different font weights to differentiate and highlight areas.
Too many stock images:
When you cannot afford to hire a professional photographer, stock images can be very helpful. However, there are some photographs that can become very familiar among designers, ruining your work. That is why you should avoid using stock images, as the main focus of your work.
Even though the spellchecker is helpful, but it won't catch correctly spelt words in the wrong context. As, for example, it won’t be able to differentiate between “your” and “you're'”. This is why, you must always proofread every piece of your work.
